We set out to test new equipment for our upcoming adventures. Escaping the cold and snowy place we’ve called home for the past 8 years in the foothills of Colorado, Southern Utah was just what the soul needed. Temperatures were near perfect with days warm around 65º to 75º and nights dropping to around 45º. We learned a lot about what worked great and what needed more thought.

Driving through the canyons in Southern Utah feels like going back in time to when dinosaurs roamed our planet. Every canyon is unique and every hour of the day changes the scenery with shifting light. The desert colors range from bright purples at twilight to blazing yellows at sunrise to deep reds at sunset.

When selecting the perfect place to set up camp in the desert, remember that winds often pick up out of nowhere and having protection from the wind can be the difference of a good night’s sleep. Here, we wedged Hermes into this crease and enjoyed a peaceful night.
